Currency of management skills tops just-in-time learning

"Am I A 21st Century Manager?" is the question occupying the minds of many of us, according to Echelon Learning's tracking survey.

The finding comes from tracking data of the top ten most popular learning solutions downloaded from the company’s resource at learningmatters.com/.

Site usage data over the past three years shows ‘Are You A 21st Century Manager?’ to be the most popular download. ‘How To Chair Committees Effectively’ and an article on the crisis leadership skills of explorer Ernest Shackleton came in second and third place respectively.

The top ten solutions downloaded include advice on matters such as ‘Emotional Intelligence’, ‘Implementing Effective e-learning Within The Organisation’, ‘How to Grow Colleagues Through Coaching’, and ‘Assessing your Leadership Potential'.

They cover the range of learning styles featured on the site including best practice essays, action lists, self-development activities and digests.

During the survey period, users from over 50 countries downloaded 17,282 information modules from the Echelon site where over 100 solutions had been used 30 times or more.

Commenting on the summary of survey findings Echelon managing director, David Hill said: "These findings provide a revealing insight into the preoccupations as much as the learning needs of the site user. They show a desire for self-knowledge, for understanding and managing others more effectively, and for acquiring the skills to achieve these aims through the experiences of others - whether it be Shackleton or Sir John Harvey-Jones.

"Most compellingly, the survey shows that demand for acquiring just-in-time learning via the web continues to grow in popularity", he adds.

Launched in 2000, learningmatters.com/ hosts 1,300 management soft skill modules, and over 700 bite-size chunks of business information.
